Implants

Missing a tooth or multiple teeth affects not only the appearance of your smile but also your health. If teeth don’t get replaced after falling out or being extracted, surrounding teeth can start to shift, causing malalignment. To restore your smile to its full potential and beauty at Chariton Dental, we offer dental implants as an artificial way to replace your tooth.

A dental implant is a surgical component that attaches to the jawbone to support a dental prosthesis such as a crown, bridge, or denture. The term “dental implant” is frequently used to refer to an implant, abutment, and crown as a whole. All three of these appliances make up a permanent artificial tooth.

Implant

The implant itself is a titanium screw that is surgically placed into the jawbone. Implants will act as the restorations “root” of the tooth-supporting and stabilizing the abutment and artificial restoration. The implant is what makes this option a permanent fix. Being placed into the bone also promotes bone and tissue health due to stimulation from chewing being quickly passed through the implant into the bone.

Abutment

Being the connection between the implant and the prosthesis, the abutment must be substantial; therefore, it is made of titanium. The abutment can be placed either right after the implant surgery or before the prosthesis is attached.

Prosthesis

Depending on your specific smile and the number of teeth you are looking to replace will determine your prosthesis. The most common ones are single-tooth restorations or crowns, bridges, and even dentures. Your prosthesis is fabricated to fit perfectly into your mouth and enhance your smile significantly. Most artificial teeth are made out of porcelain, which gives them a pearly white sheen.

Benefits of a Permanent Implant

  • Titanium is the most used material for dental implants because it is robust and can osseointegrate (fuse with human bone). The bone in the mouth is also protected against degeneration by this procedure.

  • Dental implants provide a natural-feeling replacement for missing teeth. The tooth appears to be expected in appearance, feel, and function. In contrast to alternative solutions like a flipper, it can endure natural chewing pressure and feels natural when speaking.

  • This is a one-tooth treatment for a one-tooth problem that will improve your dental health in the long run. Individual implants also make it easier to clean between the teeth. Implants can last a lifetime if taken care of properly.

  • Dental implants can last a lifetime; however, a removable dental bridge may only last ten years or so. The titanium implant is designed to blend in with the jawbone. It’s biocompatible, which means it’s not hazardous and doesn’t cause the body to reject it. Overall, it’s an excellent replacement tooth.
